Uses For Come Along Pullers

Now and again, a time comes when you need to move something on the heavy side. Maybe it's a heavy piece of furniture or something along that line. You may not always have a team of helping hands to lift it and move it around. Generally, when you imagine moving something heavy, you may think moving it upwards. A hoist is a great piece of equipment for that process. But unless you're in an industry lugging heavy equipment, a web strap ratchet lever or cable ratchet lever hoists are not going to do you much good in the home or at work. Most of the time, when you think moving something heavy, you think moving it across the room. For this application, there are come along pullers.

What Are Come Along Pullers?

Though kind of a funny name, come along pullers can find uses in and out of the home. Unlike hoists, come along pullers are designed for moving items horizontally, which makes them perfect for at-home projects. On the other hand, there are cable pullers designed for industrial use as well. So it can be a multifunctional tool, depending on what you need one for. A come along puller consists of a heavy-duty cable or chain with a hook attached to each end of it and a ratchet. You attach one end of the cable or chain to whatever you wish to move (with the hook or just wrap the cable around it if the hook won't work), then hook or wrap the opposite end to something sturdy for leverage. Then use the ratchet to force the object to move.

When Can You Use Come Along Pullers?

Off-roading vehicles create a common scenario for using come along pullers. A person may be off-roading in their SUV and gets stuck in the mud. They may be able to push it until the tires can get a grip and do the rest of the work. But they may be there a long time or be forced to call for backup. A come along puller can effectively deal with this problem. And it's not a tool that will cost an arm and a leg or take up a lot of room in the trunk either. Even if you don't off-road, it does happen occasionally (especially in winter or other wetter seasons) that your car may get stuck in someone's driveway or in a dirt parking lot. Rather than call a tow truck, it's much more convenient to be able to get it out yourself.

You may also find a use for come along pullers in the garden for removing small trees or bushes. Instead of having to dig and dig for hours perhaps, you can do a little digging around the trunk and then wrap the cable around it and use the ratchet to pull the plant out of the ground. Other applications for cable pullers include construction, fencing, boating, hunting, and camping. As already mentioned, this tool can also find many uses in industry just as similar devices like hoists and winches.

Unlike hoists and winches, come along pullers can find many applications inside and outside the home. It can be a useful tool for moving what would sometimes be immovable objects for humans. A simple device that doesn't have to cost a ton and is easily stored can also be a lifesaver, or at least awfully convenient, in different scenarios. Whatever uses you can think of for them, come along pullers are a useful tool to have around.
